Boccherini Project

Since its creation, Cuarteto Iberia has been closely linked to the Italian composer Luigi Boccherini. The main reasons to make this project are the quality and beauty of the composer ́ s chamber music work, his close connection with Madrid and our love for his hometown, Lucca.

The Boccherini project is about the research of the composer ́s work and the inclusion of a great amount of his pieces in our repertoire. Our participation in the Boccherini Open Gold Festival, celebrated every year in Lucca and organized by the Istituto Luigi Boccherini, has given us the chance to carry out this project. Besides this festival, we have had the privilege of working with direct descendants of the composer through the Luigi Boccherini Association in Madrid.

In the Boccherini Project, we do not focus only in the interpretation and recording of his string quartets, but it is also interesting to explore all of his work written for different groups that include a string quartet, such as guitar quintets, two cello quintets or piano quintets among others.

The objective of this project is to adapt the music of the baroque composer to the modern quartet, using our instruments and searching inside them Boccherini ́s characteristic sonority. This way we can approach the atmosphere of the period to our audience.
